Couples/Relationship Therapy
Why "couples/relationship" therapy, not just "couples"?
Because relationships worth working on aren't only romantic ones. This practice is sex-positive, queer-affirming, and poly-affirming — I work with couples, but also with other relationship structures where the connection matters enough to invest real work in it.
What is it?
Unlike individual therapy, the relationship itself is the client. We look at the dynamic between you — where communication breaks down, where old patterns show up, where intimacy gets complicated — and work on it directly, rather than each partner working on themselves separately and hoping it adds up.
Do we have to be married?
No. Married, dating, engaged, long-term and unmarried, whatever your relationship looks like — the work is the same: better communication, deeper understanding, and tools that actually hold up outside the session.
Does my partner have to come to every session?
It's ideal, but not required. Even one partner engaging consistently can shift the dynamic and create real movement in the relationship.
Can this help us avoid breaking up?
Sometimes, yes — a lot of relationship distress comes down to communication patterns and unaddressed history, and working through those directly can rebuild what's been eroding. But I'm not in the business of keeping people together who shouldn't be; the goal is clarity and health, whatever that ends up looking like for you.
What if my partner doesn't want to come?
That's common, and it doesn't mean the relationship is doomed. I can work with you individually on the relationship, and often that shift alone changes the dynamic enough that a resistant partner becomes more willing over time.
I offer couples and relationship therapy in-person at my Agoura Hills, CA office, and virtually for clients throughout California.
