Family Therapy

How is this different from individual therapy?

Individual therapy centers one person. Family therapy centers the system — the dynamics, patterns, and communication between everyone in the room. When something's affecting the whole family, working on it together usually gets further than any one person working on it alone.

What kinds of things does this help with?

Parenting conflict, communication breakdowns, major life transitions, and the specific friction that shows up when a family is adjusting to something new — including a family member's identity, coming out, or gender exploration. I specialize in supporting LGBTQ+ individuals and their families through that process, and in helping Millennial and Gen Z clients navigate the particular dynamics that come up with their families of origin.

What does a session look like?

Depends on who's in the room and what's going on — sometimes the whole family together, sometimes a subset. The work is the same either way: naming what's actually happening, building understanding across the different perspectives in the room, and finding communication that works better than what's been happening.

Do you work with LGBTQ+ families specifically?

Yes — this is a core part of my practice. Family therapy can be one of the most useful tools for building acceptance and repairing communication when a family is navigating a member's LGBTQ+ identity, and I create a space where that conversation can happen without anyone needing to defend who they are.

I offer family therapy in-person at my Agoura Hills, CA office, and virtually for families anywhere in California.
